Advanced Road/Group Ride Skills Clinic

The basic skills clinic was so popular it generated a request for more advanced skills training. Always happy to serve our members, the Club has arranged with Peaks Coaching to provide an Advanced Road/Group Ride Skills Clinic. 

Cost is $35 per person.

For this clinic, 

-Riders must be able to maintain a minimum sustained speed of 15 mph

-The coaches will be BJ Basham and Jill Patterson.

-Location TBD (but probably Sterling)

The skill sets will include:

Become comfortable with other riders around you:

  • Shoulder to shoulder riding in the grass

  • Wheel touches in the grass

  • Bumping other riders in the grass.

  • Balancing drills

Paceline skills:

  • How to position yourself
  • Where to ride and save the most energy

  • How to ride with stronger riders and not get dropped.

  • What to do if you are the stronger rider

  • How to deal with crosswinds.

Other skills/concerns:

  • Group ride etiquette and consistency

  • How to hold a line in a turn; how to turn sharper at higher speeds

  • Drafting skills

LOCATION UPDATE: The location for the clinic will be near Beltway Brewing in Sterling. The clinic will use Sally Ride Dr, Davis Dr, and Glenn Dr in Sterling, VA. If driving, take Rt. 28 to Sterling Blvd. and turn right on Davis Dr. If biking, it's very near where the W&OD crosses Sterling Blvd. BJ and Jill will be set up about 200 yards south of the W&OD. If you need an address for your GPS to get you there, try 22636 Davis Dr., Sterling.

Reston Bicycle Club welcomes bicycling-related organizations and non-profits to apply for a grant to further their work. The Club will provide up to $1000 per approved grant. Grants are reviewed at the next Executive Board Meeting following the request. Candidates will be informed of grant decision after the meeting.
