RBC - Reston Weekly Women's Ride - Fox Mill (04/13/2026)

BE READY TO RIDE AT 6:00PM

Welcome to the kinder, gentler, Monday night ride. We are particularly focused on including, uplifting, and encouraging women who are new to group riding. Thus, it is a no drop ride. This means you will not be left behind. We always have a sweep to stay with riders who have a mechanical issue or are struggling to keep up. If you've been afraid to join a group ride because you think you'll hold people back or can't keep up, THIS is YOUR ride.

The ride leaders for this ride are all trained. We can (and will) coach you on everything from when/how to shift to how to change lanes safely and everything in between. Please have a teachable attitude. Our primary concern is the safety of the entire ride.

Although this is a beginners' ride, we expect all participants to show up with a bicycle that is ready to ride. If it's been on the garage wall for a few months, please take it to your favorite local bike shop and let them give it some love. You must have a red blinky tail-light. You must carry an inner tube that fits your bike. (We'll help you change it if you get a flat).

If you want a more competitive drop ride, and faster speeds, please consider the RBC Monday Night Green Lizard Womens' Ride. Please review the speed requirements for that ride.

And if you want a more sustained riding experience, but still no drop, try the Thursday evening Women's Ride which starts at the Lake House in Reston (near Lake Anne). Please note that although it is a no-drop ride, you should respect their advertised speed.

Rides are not held when the forecast for rain is greater than 50%. Ride cancellations will be posted on Social Media. If you are not comfortable riding on the roads, please contact one of us before you register for the ride.

RBC - Green Lizard Weekly Women's Ride (04/13/2026)

Welcome to our ride! This ride is for RBC women, and includes support from Green Lizard Cycling owners and staff. Monday's route is below. We no longer use paper cue sheets, so please familiarize yourself with the route or put it into your phone or other GPS device.

WOD construction is done and we can return to our regular Herndon/Ashburn routes! Here is our next ride:

** If we have 2 ride leaders in any week, our priority will be to have up to 32 riders (maximum of 16 in each group, not including ride leaders and sweepers). We expect all riders to maintain our usual average speed of 15-17 mph. As the season progresses, we MAY, but will not necessarily have a group that rides faster than that average speed, depending on what riders prefer. We will always accommodate riders who can maintain a 15 mph average speed. Riders who cannot maintain that average will be asked to leave the group while we are on the WOD, but can join us another time. Any rider who wants to leave the ride early should let a ride leader or sweeper know. The pace is an average, not a constant, so we expect to accelerate down hills, and faster hill climbers will wait at the top of hills to give everyone a chance to catch up. We will also re-group if we get separated after traffic lights, and we will wait for and help anyone who has a mechanical problem. If you prefer a slower pace and shorter ride overall, please join the RBC Reston Women's Ride, which is also a 6pm Monday ride.

If you have never or rarely ridden in a group, the ride leaders can give you basic tips and guidelines before and during the ride. You don't need group riding experience to join us, but you must be willing to learn and follow basic group riding rules and etiquette, and you must be comfortable with the concept of riding with a group, and with riding on roads.

Lisa Mackem, Susie Littlejohn, and Sam Dancy can lead and sweep, and Dave Meyer or someone else from The Green Lizard can also sweep. If anyone else is interested in leading or sweeping a ride, let one of us know!

Please note that we pass only on the LEFT. Call the pass to the pedestrian or rider in front of you, and allow plenty of room.

We'll stay together as much as possible. Sunset is at 7:44 pm. If you will be biking home after the ride, please use a headlight, in addition to your required red taillight.

Ride distances will vary with the amount of evening daylight. Rides are not held when the forecast for rain is greater than 50%. Ride cancellations will be posted on Social Media and registered riders will be emailed whenever possible. All rides will include a mixture of road and WOD riding.

All riders must sign (or have already signed for 2025) a liability waiver.
RBC A Ride - 2 loops + Glade (04/14/2026)

Ride Expectations

This ride is "race intensity." That means that the pace will be high, there will be accelerations, etc., and you can show off how strong you are. However, this is absolutely not a race. You cannot take the corners at full speed, because these are open roads. Do not risk your or another's safety to gain any competitive advantage. If you want to do these things, sign up for a race, this ride is not your opportunity.

Ride Safety Guidelines:

You must be registered for the ride on the RBC website.

You are responsible for the riders behind you. Do not enter an intersection unless it is safe for all of the riders behind you. If you enter an intersection and riders behind you stop for a car, you are expected to wait for them.

Do not cross the centerline of the road or pass slowing/stopped cars. Stay in the right lane of traffic at all times, except for when moving across to make a left turn.

Nobody is racing or attacking down Birdfoot. Ride single file down the hill and through the corner. We will slow roll at the bottom of Birdfoot to allow a regroup. Be careful if there is sand, cars, etc. at the corner.

Help the group flow smoothly by protecting your front wheel, merging carefully into the draft, and holding your line and position into corners. If you don't want to pull, please communicate that clearly to other riders and stay at the back of the group so as to avoid disrupting the rotation at the front.

Look out for and call out branches, gravel, etc. on the road. Lawyers in particular always seems to accumulate branches and gravel in the bike lanes. Take the traffic lane when necessary.

No TT or tri bikes, clip on aero bars, or 'puppy paws' position. No e-bikes or earbuds. Move away from other people before blowing snot rockets. All bikes must have front and rear brakes - no fixies.

Please come prepared with the route and be aware of the included safety notes:

We are paper-free, which means you can download the route from Ride with GPS and print it before you come, but we will not have paper cue sheets to distribute at the ride.

All riders must sign (or have already signed for 2026) a liability waiver. You can do that HERE. The first ride with us is free. We welcome you to join us on subsequent rides as a member.
RBC Fox Mill Bs: Full 27 Miles; 7:45 Sunset (04/14/2026)

Here are some "rules" that we should uphold for this ride:

* However fast you might be going as you approach Birdfoot, do not cut into the wrong lane, and do not fan across the street in an attempt to maintain your pace. We will regroup at the top.

* The left turn on Colt's Neck is proving dangerous: cars coming from Lawyers may not be visible until it's too late.

* On Viking, do not run the stop sign at Pinecrest, do not cut the corner at John Milton, and do not fan across John Milton. There is consistently oncoming traffic that is obscured by parked cars.

Ramble? What is it? A leisurely tour with combination of roads and the W&OD exploring new places as well as our RBC routes.

Still, the average speed of this ride hovers at 12 mph but still leisurely. It is a good ride for retired, daytime free, new to cycling, or happy people.

* We will regroup at the end of Stuart Mill before turning on Fox Mill. This is not negotiable.

Saturday A Ride to Leesburg & Back (04/18/2026)

Ride Expectations

We will ride as a steady paceline (single or double line depending on group size) on the way to Leesburg. We expect that every rider in the group will roll through in the paceline. If you need to skip some turns to catch your breath that is absolutely OK, but if you are planning to join a group and sit in and not pull at all, we ask that you join a slower group.

On the way back from Leesburg, it is "race intensity," as traffic and safety allow.

Ride Safety Guidelines:

You must be registered for the ride on the RBC website.

Do not cross the centerline of the road or pass slowing/stopped cars. Stay in the right lane of traffic at all times, except for when moving across to make a left turn.

You are responsible for the riders behind you. Do not enter an intersection unless it is safe for all of the riders behind you.

Help the group flow smoothly by protecting your front wheel, merging carefully into the draft, and holding your line and position into corners. If you don't want to pull, please communicate that clearly to other riders and stay at the back of the group so as to avoid disrupting the rotation at the front.

No e-bikes are allowed. No TT bikes, clip on aero bars or riding in “puppy paws” position. All bikes must have front and rear brakes - no fixies.

Please come prepared with the route:

If you want to avoid congestion in the WOD parking lot, these are a few other close locations to park:

Hampshire Park (1.9 miles from start): 21315 Smith Switch Rd, Ashburn, VA 20147, United States

Commuter parking (2.7 miles from start): 45129 Russell Branch Pkwy, Ashburn, VA 20147, USA

Herndon parking lot (4.2 miles from start, the old start location): 750 Center St, Herndon VA 20170

All riders must sign (or have already signed for 2025) a liability waiver.
Saturday B Ride to Leesburg & Back (04/18/2026)

Ride Expectations:

Our goal is to ride in a steady paceline of 19-21 mph both to and from Leesburg. When you are on the front, please make an effort to hold a steady pace so that the group behind you can follow the wheels easily without tons of accelerating and braking. We ask that if you choose not to pull in the paceline, you stay at the back of the group and make sure it is clear to others so that the group rotates efficiently.
Please respect the pace of the B group - average of 19-21 mph, no "hero pulls" or "watt bombs," no passing on the right, etc.

Ride Safety Guidelines:

You must be registered for the ride on the RBC website.

Saturday A Ride to Leesburg & Back (04/25/2026)

Saturday B Ride to Leesburg & Back (04/25/2026)

RBC A Ride - 2 loops + Glade (04/28/2026)
