RBC - Reston Weekly Women's Ride - Fox Mill (08/17/2026)

BE READY TO RIDE AT 6:00PM

Welcome to the kinder, gentler, Monday night ride. We are particularly focused on including, uplifting, and encouraging women who are new to group riding. Thus, it is a no drop ride. This means you will not be left behind. We always have a sweep to stay with riders who have a mechanical issue or are struggling to keep up. If you've been afraid to join a group ride because you think you'll hold people back or can't keep up, THIS is YOUR ride.

The ride leaders for this ride are all trained. We can (and will) coach you on everything from when/how to shift to how to change lanes safely and everything in between. Please have a teachable attitude. Our primary concern is the safety of the entire ride.

Although this is a beginners' ride, we expect all participants to show up with a bicycle that is ready to ride. If it's been on the garage wall for a few months, please take it to your favorite local bike shop and let them give it some love. You must have a red blinky tail-light. You must carry an inner tube that fits your bike. (We'll help you change it if you get a flat).

If you want a more competitive drop ride, and faster speeds, please consider the RBC Monday Night Green Lizard Womens' Ride. Please review the speed requirements for that ride.

And if you want a more sustained riding experience, but still no drop, try the Thursday evening Women's Ride which starts at the Lake House in Reston (near Lake Anne). Please note that although it is a no-drop ride, you should respect their advertised speed.

Rides are not held when the forecast for rain is greater than 50%. Ride cancellations will be posted on Social Media. If you are not comfortable riding on the roads, please contact one of us before you register for the ride.

RBC - Green Lizard Weekly Women's Ride (08/17/2026)

Welcome to our ride! This ride is for RBC women, and includes support from Green Lizard Cycling owners and staff. Monday's route is below. We no longer use paper cue sheets, so please familiarize yourself with the route or put it into your phone or other GPS device:

** If we have 2 ride leaders in any week, our priority will be to have up to 32 riders (maximum of 16 in each group, not including ride leaders and sweepers). We expect all riders to maintain our usual average speed of 15-17 mph. As the season progresses, we MAY, but will not necessarily have a group that rides faster than that average speed, depending on what riders prefer. We will always accommodate riders who can maintain a 15 mph average speed. Riders who cannot maintain that average will be asked to leave the group while we are on the WOD, but can join us another time. Any rider who wants to leave the ride early should let a ride leader or sweeper know. The pace is an average, not a constant, so we expect to accelerate down hills, and faster hill climbers will wait at the top of hills to give everyone a chance to catch up. We will also re-group if we get separated after traffic lights, and we will wait for and help anyone who has a mechanical problem. If you prefer a slower pace and shorter ride overall, please join the RBC Reston Women's Ride, which is also a 6pm Monday ride.

If you have never or rarely ridden in a group, the ride leaders can give you basic tips and guidelines before and during the ride. You don't need group riding experience to join us, but you must be willing to learn and follow basic group riding rules and etiquette, and you must be comfortable with the concept of riding with a group, and with riding on roads.

Lisa Mackem, Susie Littlejohn, and other volunteers can lead and sweep, and Dave Meyer or someone else from The Green Lizard can also sweep. If you ever want to be a leader or sweeper, let us know!

Please note that we pass only on the LEFT. Call the pass to the pedestrian or rider in front of you, and allow plenty of room.

We'll stay together as much as possible. Sunset is at 8:03 pm. If you will be biking home after the ride, please use a headlight, in addition to your required red taillight.

Ride distances will vary with the amount of evening daylight. Rides are not held when the forecast for rain is greater than 50%. Ride cancellations will be posted on Social Media and registered riders will be emailed whenever possible. All rides will include a mixture of road and WOD riding.

All riders must sign (or have already signed for 2026) a liability waiver. You can do that HERE. RBC Membership is $30 per year and you can take care of that HERE, but your first ride is free if you want to try us out.

5 PM Tuesday "C" ride (new route) (08/18/2026)

The priorities of this ride are safety and fun. Don't draft too close, obey traffic signals and communicate with other riders and vehicles. Stay together and regroup at the typical spots. Welcome new riders.

We are paper-free, which means you can download the route from Ride with GPS and print it before you come, but we will not have paper cue sheets to distribute at the ride.

RBC A Ride - 2 loops + Glade (08/18/2026)

Ride Expectations

This ride is "race intensity." That means that the pace will be high, there will be accelerations, etc., and you can show off how strong you are. However, this is absolutely not a race. You cannot take the corners at full speed, because these are open roads. Do not risk your or another's safety to gain any competitive advantage. If you want to do these things, sign up for a race, this ride is not your opportunity.

Ride Safety Guidelines:

You must be registered for the ride on the RBC website.

You are responsible for the riders behind you. Do not enter an intersection unless it is safe for all of the riders behind you. If you enter an intersection and riders behind you stop for a car, you are expected to wait for them.

Do not cross the centerline of the road or pass slowing/stopped cars. Stay in the right lane of traffic at all times, except for when moving across to make a left turn.

Nobody is racing or attacking down Birdfoot. Ride single file down the hill and through the corner. We will slow roll at the bottom of Birdfoot to allow a regroup. Be careful if there is sand, cars, etc. at the corner.

Help the group flow smoothly by protecting your front wheel, merging carefully into the draft, and holding your line and position into corners. If you don't want to pull, please communicate that clearly to other riders and stay at the back of the group so as to avoid disrupting the rotation at the front.

Look out for and call out branches, gravel, etc. on the road. Lawyers in particular always seems to accumulate branches and gravel in the bike lanes. Take the traffic lane when necessary.

No TT or tri bikes, clip on aero bars, or 'puppy paws' position. No e-bikes or earbuds. Move away from other people before blowing snot rockets. All bikes must have front and rear brakes - no fixies.

Please come prepared with the route and be aware of the included safety notes:

We are paper-free, which means you can download the route from Ride with GPS and print it before you come, but we will not have paper cue sheets to distribute at the ride.

All riders must sign (or have already signed for 2026) a liability waiver. You can do that HERE. The first ride with us is free.
Tuesday D Ride (08/18/2026)

Ride Description and Expectations

This ride is a No Drop/No PR/No Surge ride. This is a D group - average of 15-17 mph; Riders must keep a steady and easy effort with no “hammering” from whoever is pulling. Follow all rules of the road: in particular, do not cross the centerline, and do not ride more than two

Please be alert at:

·       Twin Branches Road @ Glade Drive (both directions);

· Left turn from Bedfordshire to Fox Mill Drive.

Ride Safety Guidelines:

1. You must be registered for the ride on the RBC website.

2. Follow all rules of the road. Do not cross the centerline of the road or pass slowing/stopped cars. Stay in the right lane of traffic at all times, except for when moving across to make a left turn. Do not ride more than two abreast.

3. You are responsible for the riders behind you. Do not enter an intersection unless it is safe for all of the riders behind you. If you enter an intersection and riders behind you stop for a car, you are expected to wait for them. It’s a misconception among cyclists that if one can beat a car through an intersection, one is entitled or even required to do so.

4. Ride with the group, and for the group. Call out potholes or debris, especially on Lawyer’s Rd. No racing or chasing riders who go decide to go off the front.

5. Be considerate of the neighborhoods in which we ride, even if it requires the group to slow down.

6. No TT or tri bikes, clip on aero bars, or 'puppy paws' position. No e-bikes or earbuds – (open earphones okay). Move away from other people before blowing snot rockets. All bikes must have front and rear brakes - no fixies.

Rides are not held when the forecast for rain is greater than 50%. Ride cancellations will be sent via email and posted under ANNOUNCEMENTS on the RBC website homepage.

Please have the route loaded on your phone or bike computer. Alternatively, you can print a copy from the Ride with GPS website.

All riders must sign (or have already signed for 2026) a liability waiver. You can do that HERE. The first ride with us is free.
RBC Fox Mill B Ride (08/18/2026)

Ride Expectations

This ride is a fast tempo ride with a few "sprint" points and subsequent regroups. Please respect the pace of the B group - average of 19-21 mph, steady effort, no "hero pulls" or "watt bombs." Follow all rules of the road: in particular, do not cross the centerline, and do not ride more than two abreast.

Regroup at:

November Ct. (just after the turn onto Lawyers from Birdfoot);

Be alert at:

the bottom of Birdfoot (do not cut the corner; do not fan out);

Running Cedar Rd. before the turn onto Soapstone Rd.;

Hunter Station (again, do not fan out).

Ride Safety Guidelines:

Follow all rules of the road. Do not cross the centerline of the road or pass slowing/stopped cars. Stay in the right lane of traffic at all times, except for when moving across to make a left turn. Do not ride more than two abreast.

Ride Expectations

This is B ride, and the pace is fast. We will aim to average between 19 and 21 mph. This is an average speed, and there will be surging or riding much faster at times.

We will slow roll at the top of the climb and regroup at the stop sign before the turn from Highland Vista Dr onto George Washington Blvd (marked on the route)

On the W&OD trail, please split into groups of 5 with separation of 2 bike lengths between groups. Thank you for being courteous to all trail users.

Please be sure to ride with the route loaded, so you can find your way if you are dropped.

Ride Safety Guidelines:

You must be registered for the ride on the RBC website.

Do not cross the centerline of the road or pass slowing/stopped cars. Stay in the right lane of traffic at all times, except for when moving across to make a left turn.

You are responsible for the riders behind you. Do not enter an intersection unless it is safe for all of the riders behind you.

Help the group flow smoothly by protecting your front wheel, merging carefully into the draft, and holding your line and position into corners.

No e-bikes are allowed. No TT bikes, clip on aero bars or riding in “puppy paws” position. All bikes must have front and rear brakes - no fixies.

Please come prepared with the route:

RBC Hunter's Wood B Ride: Route 124A (08/20/2026)

Scroll down for the usual safety requirements. BLUF: I'm posting a different route than we've been using.

Regroup at:

the top of Stuart Mill at the intersection of Fox Mill Rd. (both times);

the end of Bennett Rd. (when we cross West Ox);

before we cross back over to Lawyers Rd. from McLearen Rd (by the Giant Shopping Center).

Be alert at:

the bottom of Birdfoot (do not cut the corner; wait for everyone to finish the descent);

the right turn onto John Milton, and the subsequent sprint (the sightlines are short, and there is often traffic).

Ride Safety Guidelines:

You must be registered for the ride on the RBC website.

Follow all rules of the road. Do not cross the centerline of the road or pass slowing/stopped cars. Stay in the right lane of traffic at all times, except for when moving across to make a left turn. Do not ride more than two abreast.

Ride with the group, and for the group. Call out potholes or debris, especially on Lawyer’s Rd. Please do not "race" the group.

Be considerate of the neighborhoods in which we ride, even if it requires the group to slow down.

No TT or tri bikes, clip on aero bars, or 'puppy paws' position. No e-bikes or earbuds. Move away from other people before blowing snot rockets. All bikes must have front and rear brakes - no fixies.

Saturday A/B Ride to Leesburg & Back (08/22/2026)

Ride Expectations

A group - hard paceline of 22+ mph (single or double line depending on group size). We expect that every rider in the group will roll through in the paceline. If you need to skip some turns to catch your breath that is absolutely OK, but if you are planning to join a group and sit in and not pull at all, we ask that you join a slower group.

B group (will roll out 5 mins after the A group) - a steady paceline of 19-21 mph. We ask that if you choose not to pull in the paceline, you stay at the back of the group and make sure it is clear to others so that the group rotates efficiently. Please respect the pace of the B group - average of 19-21 mph, no "hero pulls" or "watt bombs," no passing on the right, etc.

Ride Safety Guidelines:

Herndon Saturday “Long C” (08/22/2026)

This ride averages 17-18 MPH depending on who shows up. Basic and intermediate group riding skills are expected and practiced. Check in with the ride leader for your first ride.

Ride Guidelines:

If you don't want to pull, please communicate that clearly to other riders and stay at the back of the group so as to avoid disrupting the rotation at the front.

RBC A Ride - 2 loops + Glade (08/25/2026)

Be careful if there is sand, cars, etc. at the bottom corner.

Ramble? What is? A leisurely tour with combination of roads and the W&OD exploring new places as well as our RBC routes.

Saturday A/B Ride to Leesburg & Back (08/29/2026)

RBC A Ride - 2 loops (09/01/2026)

Be careful if there is sand, cars, etc. at the bottom corner.

RBC A Ride - 2 loops (09/29/2026)

Be careful if there is sand, cars, etc. at the bottom corner.
